Industrial Animation with ActorCore, iClone and Blender

How can believable character animation for industrial, technical and training content be produced without turning motion capture into a major project of its own? This question is at the heart of our collaboration with Reallusion. On July 22, 2026, Reallusion Magazine featured our production workflow.

At Immersive 3D Animation, we combine ActorCore, iClone 8, iClone Video Mocap and Blender in a streamlined pipeline. It enables us to visualize industrial processes with convincing digital people while keeping the focus where it belongs: on the product, the machine and the explanation.

Watch the workflow in action

The following video demonstrates the workflow and its results in practice.

Why character animation is challenging in industrial videos

People are often not the main subject of a technical explainer video. Their movements still need to feel believable. An unnatural hand motion, incorrect posture or imprecise interaction can distract viewers from the message.

Traditional motion capture often involves dedicated suits, cameras, studio space and substantial cleanup. That level of production is not proportionate for every industrial project. We therefore developed a workflow that is fast, flexible and cost-effective while preserving the visual quality the scene requires.

Our ActorCore, iClone and Blender workflow

1. Source production-ready industrial characters in ActorCore

ActorCore provides rigged 3D characters for a wide range of applications. For industrial scenes, we can select characters with suitable workwear and integrate them directly into production. This saves time otherwise spent on modeling, rigging and preparation.

2. Record custom movement with a smartphone

When a standard motion does not match the scene, we record the required action as a reference video. A smartphone is enough. This makes it practical to capture project-specific actions such as operating, lifting, inspecting or assembling.

3. Generate and refine video mocap in iClone 8

iClone Video Mocap converts the movement in the video into editable 3D animation. We then refine timing, posture and transitions in iClone 8. The motion remains flexible and can be adapted to the technical environment.

4. Transfer to Blender for final animation and rendering

Blender Auto Setup transfers the character, materials and animation into Blender. We complete precise interactions with machines or tools, add animation layers and finish cameras, lighting and rendering. The character then fits naturally into the wider 3D production.

What are the benefits?

  • Faster production: Ready-made characters and video-based motion capture shorten the path to usable animation.
  • Less hardware: Many movements can be captured without a dedicated mocap suit.
  • More flexibility: Project-specific actions can be recorded and revised quickly.
  • Controlled costs: The effort stays proportionate to the character's role in the project.
  • Clearer communication: People communicate scale, operation and assembly steps intuitively.

Where we use this workflow

The approach is especially useful for technical explainer videos, 3D product animations, assembly instructions, training content, safety procedures, AEC visualization and industrial simulation. Whenever a person demonstrates an action involving a product or machine, believable character animation can make the process easier to understand.

The goal is not to showcase as much technology as possible. The goal is to tell a clear visual story. For every project, we select only the tools and animation steps that support the message.

Our collaboration with Reallusion

The feature in Reallusion Magazine offers a practical look at our production process and shows how Reallusion tools work together with Blender in a real industrial animation pipeline. We are pleased to share the approach with an international community of 3D artists, studios and technical communicators.

Frequently asked questions

What is iClone Video Mocap?

iClone Video Mocap creates editable 3D motion from ordinary video footage. It makes custom movement capture possible without a complex motion-capture studio.

Why is ActorCore useful for industrial animation?

ActorCore provides rigged, production-ready characters and motions. This reduces setup time and makes it easier to add people to technical 3D scenes.

Can this workflow be combined with CAD-based scenes?

Yes. Prepared CAD data can form the technical environment in Blender. Animated characters complement these scenes by demonstrating operation, assembly and scale.

Is video-based motion capture suitable for every project?

It is particularly effective for clear full-body movements and fast production cycles. Complex interactions still require focused cleanup so that hands, tools and machines work together precisely.
