How we promoted the Digital Days in Linz with a huge Zeppelin

Sometimes the best ideas come when you ask yourself a simple question:
How do you attract attention to an event that is already digital?

The Digital Days took place on October 15 and 16 and it was clear in advance that the advertising should stand out.

The idea: Something big.

After the briefing, it quickly became clear that we wanted to do something that could not be overlooked. So we packed up our stuff and drove to Linz.

Linz is not only a venue, but should also be clearly recognizable as such. That is why we deliberately used well-known spots such as the main square, the Linz logo and the Trinity Column as visual anchors.

We filmed very early in the morning. At this time, the city is quiet, the light is soft and the conditions are simply ideal. No stress, no crowds, full control over shots.

From real city to digital presentation

Back in the studio, it went straight on. We produced the whole thing in Blender.

The idea was simple but impressive:
A huge zeppelin, branded with Digital Days, pulls a gigantic iPhone through the city like a billboard. And this finally crashes into the Holy Trinity Column.

It sounds crazy. It was a bit too.

After motion tracking and branding, it was time to animate. To make the iPhone behave realistically, we tried to rotate an axis to simulate natural vibrations. We got help from ChatGPT for curve calculation and physically credible movement.

This was followed by rendering, post-production and finally the finished video.

Why projects like this work

What made this project special was the combination of a real environment and digital hyperbole. The city is real. The camera is real. The light is real. And that is precisely why the unrealistic has an even stronger effect.

Linz is immediately recognizable. And at the same time, you see something that would never happen there.

This tension creates attention.
